I have heard that "Your first year is the worse year"
Well, I can proudly say that is a fact. Yes, I said it proudly because before this week I thought the first year was very challenging. However, I didn't realize that it would be this awful.
I am working my bottom off with a lack of real curriculum since my district doesn't have a solid science curriculum that can be planned for an entire hour session of 4th and 5th graders. So, I have made a decision that since my school is able to do their own BYOD program I designed my class in more of STEM learning model rather than the traditional science classroom. Yes, we do some cool hands-on experiments, but I also think that a device in the reach of every students hands is just as important. I have done some cool research lessons and projects with the students.
But I still find my students being "bad digital citizens."
Now, I am getting complaints from parents that I am not doing enough science and too much digital citizenship. Well, has anyone ever heard of computer science? That was my first response.
I truly love all my students, but my goodness their parents are not cool.
So, I will say it again, the first year is beyond ridiculous with the loops only I have to hurdle over. My colleagues and principal say I am doing an incredible job with the hurdles I have been given. I say bring on the hurdles, but once I get into my car it is another story...
The question now with a new principal coming into my school is, "Are we still going to have a BYOD program next year?"
Ummm, why is that even a question?
