I have been lucky enough to be apart of the technology committee for my school site. I wouldn't say this is a HUGE deal, but this role is a teachers perspective on how to spend the "Tech Fund."
Yes, you are probably wondering "What kind of school has a tech fund?" and second you must be thinking "oh, she must be at a private school"
My answers are "yeah, not sure what kind of school has such a fund, and no its a Oakland public school.
I recently had my first meeting with the Tech Committee and it holds 4 parents and 3 teachers along with the PTA president. I ran the meeting and told the committee what we need for support. I suggested an iPad cart for K-2 and Chromebooks to replace the broken existing Chromebooks. However, I was also trying very hard to suggest Technology Integration Professional Developments for the staff, but I think that will be heard more in the next meeting.
It was nerve wrecking talking to the group, but I think I won them over once I started to speak and explain why everything needs to happen to continue BYOD and making teaching/learning happen.
